Radhames Liz pitched another strong game for the IronBirds on Friday night, but this time was tagged with his third loss of the season as New Jersey beat Aberdeen, 3-1, in front of 3,908 fans at Skylands Park.
Liz, the New York-Penn League ERA and strikeouts leader, gave up only one run and five hits over five innings, walking four and fanning nine. He pitched out of a bases-loaded, none out jam in the third, fanning the next three hitters. In the 4th, he allowed an RBI single to Daniel Nelson and Jersey led 1-0.
The Cardinals, winners of 7 of 10 contests, added two runs in the 6th off Russ Brocato for a 3-0 lead.
Aberdeen was held without a run until the top of the 8th. Then, with one out, Kyle Dahlberg doubled and Zo Scott singled him home. But the IronBirds would not score again and lost for the 5th strait game.
Aberdeen falls to 12-25 on the season and has lost 11 strait games to New Jersey dating to last season. The IronBirds have been held to just three runs on 10 hits in the first two games of this series.
