BURLINGTON, VT --- Jed Lowrie was 2-for-4 with one double and two RBI, while Jay Johnson went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI to lead the Lowell Spinners to a 7-3 victory over the Vermont Expos in New York-Penn League action Friday night at Centennial Field.

The Spinners took a 4-0 lead by scoring single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings off Expos starter Carlos Martinez (three runs) and reliever Aaron Jackson. Those four runs scored on a RBI groundout, an error, a run-scoring double play and a sacrifice fly.

Vermont fought its way back into the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth off Spinner reliever Matt Hancock. Mike Daniel smashed a one-out triple to rightcenter and scored the Expos first run on a RBI groundout. John-Michael Howell followed with a single and Dee Brown smacked a two-run homer to leftfield to cut the Lowell lead to 4-3.

But the Spinners came right back with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh off Jackson. A leadoff single, one-out walk and bunt single loaded the bases for Lowrie, who grounded a two-run single to leftfield for a 6-3 Spinners lead. Later in the inning, Johnson produced his second sacrifice fly of the night.

Lowell starter J.T. Zink allowed just two hits and struckout five before coming out of the game after just four innings. Gene Flores (1-1) relieved Hancock in the Expos three-run sixth and struckout two in an inning of work for the victory. Martinez allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over five innings for the loss, while Jackson was touched for four runs on four hits in 1.1 innings.

Jason Twomley and Luis Soto each had two hits for Lowell (21-17), while Leonard Davis went 3-for-4 for Vermont (11-27). John-Michael Howell was 2-for-5 for the Expos to increase his season average to .363, second in the New York-Penn League.

Gene Yost (4-1) will get the start for Vermont in the finale of the three-game series with Lowell on Saturday night at Centennial Field. Baseball caps, courtesy of Blue Cross/Blue Shield, will be given to the first 1,000 fans for the 7:05 p.m. game.
