Cards clip Ironbirds

New Jersey Cardinals News Release


For the second straight night at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals defeated the Aberdeen Ironbirds 3-1. The Cardinals improved their record back to .500 at 19-19 while the Ironbirds fell to 12-25. Mitchell Boggs worked 6 scoreless innings to pick up his 2nd consecutive victory to improve his record to 2-3 and Matt Trent picked up his 8th save of the season. Adam Rodgers and Daniel Nelson paced the offense collecting 5 of the 10 Jersey Bird hits. Radhames Liz took the loss for Aberdeen and saw his record fall to 4-3.

The Cardinals jumped on top in the bottom of the 4th against Liz with a leadoff double by Rodgers and then scored on Nelsons single to left field. The Cardinals added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th when Sean Dobson doubled down the right field line to score Chad Gabriel. They added their final run of the night when Tyler Greene beat out an infield single scoring Nelson.

Aberdeen scored their lone run in the top of the 8th with 1 out Kyle Dahlberg doubled off of Chris Clem to the right field wall and then scored Lorenzo Scotts single to left field. Trent came on and with 2 outs walked the tying run before getting Keith Reed to strike out ending the inning.

The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow evening at Skylands as they look to remain perfect against Aberdeen in 2005. Tomorrow night will be the final night of the Franklin Sussex Auto Mall/WSUS/New Jersey Cardinals Field of Dreamschallenge where 1 lucky fan will drive off with a brand new 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Their will also be a Monster Truck Show after the game with the Dodge Raminator, courtesy of Franklin Sussex Auto Mall. In addition Skylands Park and the Cardinals will host the Girl Scouts Sleepover after the game.
