Cyclones Down Blue Rocks, 4-2; Move into First Place with Five Games to Go

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Brooklyn Cyclones took down the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 4-2, to ring in the final series of the regular season on Tuesday night at Maimonides Park. With the win, combined with Jersey Shore's loss, Brooklyn moves into sole possession of first place in the second half North Division standings with five games remaining in the regular season.

The Cyclones retired the final eight Blue Rocks batters of the ball game to grab the win. RHP Dylan Hall and RHP Jeffrey Colon logged a combined 4.2 innings of one-hit ball, while striking out seven and walking none. All this came after starting pitcher RHP Jordany Ventura hurled 4.1 innings while surrendering two runs, only one of which was earned.

Brooklyn opened up the scoring on a solo shot from LF Ryan Clifford in the bottom of the third. The long ball marked his 24th of the season, and sixth since joining the Cyclones. His home run was the second straight contest where he left the ballpark.

The 'Clones tripled their lead in the fourth, tacking on two more courtesy of a Wilmington fielding error. 3B Yohandy Morales airmailed the throw to first base, allowing both C Drake Osborn and DH Chase Estep to cross home. Ramírez was credited with an RBI on the play.

In the 5th, Wilmington responded with its first run of the game. Morales doubled to center, scoring 2B Viandel Pena to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Blue Rocks tacked on another in the same frame - an RBI single from C Matt Suggs, scoring RF Andrew Pinckney.

Wilmington was unable to muster any offense over the final few frames, as Hall and Colon silenced the Blue Rocks bats. Hall picked up his first Brooklyn, while Colon picked up his first Brooklyn save.

The Cyclones return to action Wednesday night against the Blue Rocks at Maimonides Park. LHP Felipe De La Cruz (1-1, 3.00) takes the mound for Brooklyn. He'll oppose LHP Dannel Díaz (3-4, 4.37) for the Blue Rocks. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
