March 16, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones rallied for three third period goals in a three and a half minute window in a 4-3 shootout loss at Dayton on Sunday afternoon. Cyclones forward Jason Deitsch and Matt Stroczynski each registered a goal and an assist in the effort. Cincinnati reduces its magic number to clinching its first-ever division title to one with the effort-and can secure it Monday night against Johnstown.

The Cyclones have come from behind 22 times this season to win games, three other bids have resulted in losses in either overtime or the shootut. None have ever come when the team trailed by three goals.

Dayton opened the scoring 3:24 into the first period, as Yannick Tifu fired home his 15th goal of the season from Masahito Nishiwaki. The goal was created off a turnover and the pair were off to the Cincinnati goal. The lead extended to 2-0, when Mike Walsh re-directed a shot from the point for his tenth goal of the campaign. The power play goal came from Chris Eade and Corey LeClair. Before the period ended, Dayton was awarded a penalty shot that Mike Campaner failed to convert. Campaner broke in while the Cyclones were on the power play to create the situation. Cody Rudkowsky stopped the shot and kept the score in place at 2-0. Cincinnati outshot Dayton, 17-7, in the opening frame.

Dayton extended the lead to 3-0 with another goal in the second period. Matt Beaudoin netted his ECHL-leading 36th goal of the campaign-on the power play-from Walsh and Ryan Smyth. The Bombers outshot Cincinnati, 8-7, in the middle period.

The Cyclones started their third period rally when Matt Syroczynski scored his 27th goal from the slot at 6:00 of the frame, as Jason Deitsch dished the pass to him. A little more than two and a half minutes later, at 8:34, Deitsch collected his ninth goal of the season from Syroczynski and Alexandre Dulac-Lemelin. Less than a minute later, Mathieu Aubin scored on a penalty shot, his 21st of the season and the game was knotted a 3-3. Cincinnati outshot Dayton, 12-11, in the third period.

In overtime, neither team scored, as Cincinnati recorded the only shot on goal-to win the battle for the night, 37-28.

In the shootout, the Bombers scored three times-to take the win and end a five game losing streak, 4-3.

The Cincinnati Cyclones remain 37 games above .500, with a 47-10-4 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division-21 points ahead of second place Elmira. The shootout loss gives Cincinnati a 31-4-2 record since December 15. Dayton is 27-24-10. The 47 wins are the most ever by the club.

The Cyclones are next in action Monday night (March 17) hosting Johnstown at 7:30pm, in the annual St. Patrick's Day clash. The game will be carried on the internet at: www.cycloneshockey.com. Cincinnati needs only for the game to go into overtime to clinch its first-ever division title.
