Inferno beat Rays 4-2

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 16, 2008)-- The Columbia Inferno (29-26-4-6, 68 points) exorcised some recent frustrations as they beat the S.C. Stingays (40-22-2-1, 83 points) 4-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Brad Ralph gave the Inferno a 1-0 lead when, while on the powerplay, his 17th of the season found its way past Josh Johnson at the 13:23 mark with assists to Eric Lundberg and Todd Perry. Recent acquisition AJ Bozoian scored his first goal in an Inferno sweater three minutes later to put Columbia up 2-0; Mac Faulkner and Jeremy Schenderling earned the assists. The Stingrays cut the lead in half in the final minute of the first when Travis Morin netted his 32nd goal of the year, beating Jeff Jakaitis while getting help from Cail MacLean and Marty Guerin.

Liam Huculak reclaimed the two goal lead for the Inferno four minutes into the second period when his fifth of the year beat Johnson. Owen Fussey and Perry notched the assists. The Stingrays struck again the waning seconds of the period when Paul McIlveen beat Jakaitis on the powerplay with help from Nate Kiser and MacLean to cut the Inferno lead to 3-2.

Schenderling again put the Inferno up by two goals three minutes into the third period. Perry and Faulkner's third and second assists, respectively, helped seal the Inferno's 4-2 victory.

Jakaitis finished with 37 saves on 39 shots while Johsnon stopped 25 of 29.

The Inferno return to the Carolina Coliseum on Wednesday, March 19 to host the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:05 p.m.
