Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Greensboro, NC â The Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) have signed defenseman Kurt Drummond to a contract. Drummond becomes the fifth player and the first defenseman the Generals have signed for the upcoming season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Drummond, 24, was the Wheeling Nailers' most productive defenseman last season. The 6'1", 200-pound blueliner enjoyed his best season last year, posting twelve goals and adding 34 assists for 46 points in 68 games, with a solid plus/minus rating of +14. His 46 points was 13th in the league for defenseman, but only four points shy of being seventh. The four year pro has amassed 19 goals and 59 assists for 78 points in 195 career games, nearly half of which have been played in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Hamilton Bulldogs.
"Kurt will log a lot of ice time with the Generals," says Generals head coach Rick Adduono (ah-DOO-no). "He's a highly skilled player on the offensive side of the game, but he knows what his main responsibility on the ice is, too, and he takes care of his own end very well. Two-way defensemen are invaluable in this league, and we're thrilled to have one in Kurt."
Drummond joins goaltender Daniel Berthiaume, right wing Jay Murphy, and centers Mark Turner and David Whitworth as the Generals' players under contract. Greensboro's season opener is slated for Friday, October 11 at 7:30 at the Lexington Men O'War. The Generals' home opener is Friday, October 25 at 7:30 against the Reading Royals. The Generals are currently selling season tickets for all 36 home games for as low as $255.00 for goal view seats. Anyone purchasing season tickets will receive a season parking pass absolutely free while supplies last.
