Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

Williamsport scored four runs late, but the hole was too deep to climb out of. The Spikes got up early on Josh Warner, and scored five runs with two outs to beat the Crosscutters 7-4 Thursday night.

State College starter Clay Holmes had a perfect game going through two outs in the fifth inning, but was broken up by Yan Carlos Olmo.

Chris Serritella was the offensive highlight for the Cutters, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Serritella's biggest hit of the night was a blast. A two-run homer to right-center field in the seventh inning cut the deficit to 7-2, but by then the Cutters were in two deep a hole.

Warner struggled for the third straight start. He allowed six runs on seven hits in five innings, walking three Spikes.

D.J. Crumlich struck first for State College. His RBI-single up the middle in the first inning plated Barrett Barnes for the first run of the game. Crumlich in turn scored on a double by Jacob Stallings. Chris Diaz capped the three-run first with a sac fly to center.

A two-out single by Diaz in the third made it 4-0 Spikes, before two-out singles by Stallings and Diaz in the fifth made it 6-0. Walker Gourley added an RBI-double in the seventh to cap the State College scoring at 7-0.

After the Serritella homer in the seventh, Williamsport did score two more in the ninth. Larry Greene doubled in Cameron Perkins before Serritella plated Greene for a 7-4 final.

Williamsport drops to 11-20 with the loss. Game two of the SawBuck series with State College is at Bowman Field tomorrow at 7:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
