Auburn Doubledays News Release
AUBURN, N.Y. - The Auburn Doubledays (19-11) were held hitless after the fourth inning, and ended up getting shutout for the first time this summer, 3-0, by their Pinckney division rival the Batavia Muckdogs (18-13). Batavia out hit Auburn in the game 13-4.
Batavia scored one run each in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. In the third, SS Alex Mejia doubled to center field with one out. He scored when the next batter at the plate, 2B Breyvic Valera, drove a ground ball up the middle to center field for an RBI single.
In the fourth, it was the middle of the Muckdogs lineup that did the damage. First baseman David Washington leadoff with a single to right. He advanced to third on a double by catcher Jesus Montero. Washington then scored on a fly ball single to right by RF Jordan Walton.
Four consecutive singles by Batavia to begin the fifth brought the third and final run to the plate. All three runs were charged to Doubledays starter RHP David Fischer (1-2), who lasted five innings and was tagged for 11 hits. LHP Ben Freeman (2-1) got the start and win for the Muckdogs, going five innings and allowing all four hits the Doubledays were able to manage on the night. RHP Jose Almarante picked up his first save of the season by pitching a perfect ninth.
The Doubledays and Muckdogs battle again on Friday July 20 in Batavia. Auburn will send LHP Nick Lee (1-0) to the mound for his fourth start of the year. He will square off against LHP Tyler Melling (2-0) for Batavia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. All Doubledays road games can be heard on WAUB 98.1FM and 1590AM, and online at www.fingerlakesdailynews.com by clicking on the WAUB stream under the "listen" tab.
