The Cutters are currently 34-26 and in 2nd place in the McNamara Division, 6 1/2 games behind the division-leading Staten Island Yankees. Williamsport trails lowell by a mere 1/2 game in the wild-card playoff race. It looks like it will be a battle down to the wire for playoff spots throughout the NY-P League. Cutters 1B/DH Steven Pearce was named the NY-P League Player of the Week for the week ending August 28. He is the first Williamsport player to be tabbed fore the award in 2005. In addition, Pearce captured his 5th Shop-Vac Player of the Week award. In the weeks 5 games Pearce hit .450 (9-for-20) with 2 home runs and 7 RBI's. The Williamsport Crosscutters announced a host of player moves for the stretch run including adding 2005 Pirates 1st round draft choice OF Andrew McCutchen to the roster. McCutchen hit .297 for Bradenton (GCL) this summer with 2 home runs and 30 RBI's in 45 games. McCutchen also stole 13 bases in 14 attempts. It marks the third year in a row that the Cutters have had the Pirates 1st round pick (2003- LHP Paul Maholm, 2004- C Neil Walker). The Crosscutters placed four players on the squad. 1B Steven Pearce was 1-for-2, RHP Todd Redmond pitched two scorless innings of relief and RHP Matt Swanson pitched one scoreless inning.
