Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY -- The Cyclones snapped their two-game losing streak on Monday night, beating the Hudson Valley Renegades by the score of 3-1. Jeff Landing (4-5) got the win for Brooklyn after tossing five shutout innings, surrendering five hits while walking one and striking out one. Greg Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with two runs scored to pace the Cyclones offense. The win coupled with the Lowell Spinners loss moves the Cyclones 2.5 games out of the Wild Card lead.
Brooklyn's offense got started early on Monday as Greg Gonzalez lead off the bottom of the first with a single, and after stealing second came home to score on a Caleb Stewart RBI single to give the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead. After matching zeros over the next four innings, the lead ballooned to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Gonzalez was once again the table setter, starting the rally with a double. Stewart, who has four home runs and 9 RBI in his six games against the Renegades this season, was walked intentionally before Matt Anderson reached on an infield single to load the bases for Nick Evans. Evans responded by lacing a single into left field to score two and push the Brooklyn advantage to 3-0. The Renegades tried to mount a comeback, scoring once in the seventh, but Robert Paulk closed out the game for Brooklyn, pitching two scoreless innings of relief to pick up his fourth save of the year.
The Cyclones will look to sweep the two-game series from the Renegades tomorrow night beginning at 7:00 when Waner Mateo(4-2) makes the start for Brooklyn. Great seats are still available and can be purchased over the phone by calling (718)507-TIXX, logging on to www.brooklyncyclones.com, or in person at the KeySpan Park Box Office.
