Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
BURLINGTON, VT --- Due to an overwhelming response by their fans, the new name for the Vermont Expos will not be unveiled at the Expos final home game of the season on Tuesday, Spetember 6th, the team announced today.
With over 30,000 submissions for the "Name Your Team" contest, along with making sure all the requirements, trademarks and artwork for the new name/logo are in check, the Expos have decided to hold off on announcing the new name until probably around the time of the World Series.
"Our name your team contest was more successful than we could ever have imagined," Vermont Expos General Manager C.J. Knudsen said. "Our challenge as an organization now is to take the 200-300 names that would look great on a jersey and whittle them down to one."
"It was a fun process and a learning process, one that would not have been possible without all of our great fans," Knudsen added. "We are sorry that it will take a little longer to reveal the name, but in the end we are sure it will be worth the wait."
Although the new name will not be announced during Vermont's final homestand of the season September 4-6, the club will still hold the drawing with the entries from everyone who submitted a suggestion for a new name having a chance to win tons of great prizes.
Among the prizes to be raffled off during the final homestand is a trip for two to see the Washington National at RFK Stadium during the 2006 season. The trip includes air transportation and a one-night hotel stay in Washington.
Other prizes include season tickets for the 2006 Vermont season, year's supply of Pepsi products courtesy of Pepsi-Cola, 12 baseballs from the 1991-2001 Major League All-Star Games courtesy of Pepsi, a year's membership to the Sports & Fitness Edge, Twin Oaks or Racquet's Edge, tickets to a taping of the David Letterman Show courtesy of WCAX-TV and Gift Certificates from the University Mall.
