Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
Williamsport took an early 1-0 lead on Friday night at Bowman Field, but were unable to hold on as Tri-City defeated the Cutters 6-2.
Cutters LF Zach Collier hit a double to center to lead off the top of the 4th inning and later scored on CF Leandro Castro's RBI double to left giving Williamsport the 1-0 lead.
It was short-lived however, as Tri-City caught up to Crosscutters starting leftyr Korey Noles (1-1, 2.60) in the top of the 5th inning. The ValleyCats sent eleven batters to the plate in the frame and plated five runs to surge to a 5-1 lead.
In the bottom half of the 6th Williamsport crept closer as they were able to score a run to cut the lead to 5-2. Collier hit a single to center to get the Cutters started. Schoenberger walked putting runners on 1st and 2nd with one out for Castro. With Castro batting, a wild pitch was thrown and Collier used some heads up base running to make it to third. Castro would later strike out but, there was another wild pitch thrown and Collier was able to slide home safely.
In the top of the 8th, Tri-City tacked on another run to extend their lead to 6-2. Despite Tri-City boasting the leagues highest ERA they limited the Crosscutters batters to just two runs on six hits. Zach Collier led the Cutters offensively going 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.
Despite the loss Williamsport remains a ½ game above Lowell in the Wild Card standings. The Cutters and ValleyCats will play the middle game of the series Saturday at Bowman at 7:05pm The contest can be heard on ESPN 1050AM, 104/1FM and online at crosscutters.com.
