WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY-Jason Erickson and Ricardo Paulino combined to hold the Hudson Valley Renegades off the scoreboard until the seventh inning, and the State College Spikes took their first road win of the year from an out-of-division opponent as they topped the Renegades, 3-2, on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium.

Erickson (2-1) started and went five shutout innings for State College (25-24) to earn his second professional victory. The right-hander from the University of Washington allowed just three hits and struck out a season-high six. Paulino (1) then took over and allowed two unearned runs over the final four innings on three hits and a walk to pick up his fifth career save as a professional.

The Spikes took the lead in the second inning when Pat Irvine doubled to knock in David Rubinstein. Irvine ended the game with State College's only multi-hit performance, going 2-for-3. Evan Chambers and Aaron Baker also aided the Spikes' cause in the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles to lead off the frame and extend the State College lead to 3-0.

The victory was the first for the Spikes in seven tries against non-Pinckney Division teams on the road in 2009. State College also shook off a 2-10 start against out-of-division teams to take back-to-back interdivisional wins for the first time this season.

Hudson Valley (24-25) starter Kyle Lobstein (1-4) took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, over six innings on five hits and a walk. Lobstein, one of the top pitching prospects in the Tampa Bay Rays' system, did strike out eight Spikes batters in the effort.

Saturday, the Spikes take on the Renegades at 7:05 p.m. in the middle game of their three-game set at Dutchess Stadium. Right-hander Kyle McPherson (2-2) gets the ball for State College, to be opposed by Hudson Valley right-hander Alexander Colome (4-1), who will bring a 14-inning scoreless streak into the game.

Fans can catch all of the action on the Spikes Radio Network and flagship station 3WZ at 95.3 FM starting at 6:35 p.m. with the Spikes GameDay Show live from Dutchess Stadium.

The Spikes' radio broadcast can also be heard worldwide through the "Listen Live" link on StateCollegeSpikes.com, provided by 95.3-3WZ.
