
Renegades Drop Fourth in a Row With 3-2 Loss to the Spikes

FISHKILL, N.Y. (August 7, 2009) - The Renegades (24-25) drop their fourth game in a row losing to the State College Spikes (25-24), 3-2, Friday night at Dutchess Stadium in front of a sellout crowd of 5,162. The Renegades recorded six hits as the Spikes pitching staff challenged the Renegades batters throwing 107 pitches with 79 of those pitches thrown for strikes (74%).
The Renegades Brett Nommensen went 2-for-4 on the night increasing his current hitting streak to six games. During the six game stretch he's batting .421 (8-for-19) with a triple and three RBI.
The Spikes struck first giving them an early one-run lead they would not give up. In the top of the third with one out and David Rubinstein on first Pat Irvine hit his fifth double of the year, which plated Rubinstein from first to bring the score to 1-0.
State College increased their lead to 3-1 plating a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. The Spikes plated their third and final run of the game in the visiting half of the sixth on back-to-back doubles. Evan Chambers started the inning off with a lead-off ground-rule double to left-center field and scored one batter later on an Aaron Baker double to right field. The double was Baker's ninth of the year and increased State College's lead to 3-1.
After an error by the Spikes first baseman extended the bottom of the seventh the Renegades plated their first run of the game on back-to-back singles. After reaching second on the error, Mayo Acosta moved 90 feet closer to home on an Elias Otero single. Acosta crossed home on a Bennett Davis RBI single to left field which brought the score to 3-1, in favor of the Spikes.
The Renegades cut the Spikes lead in half after they plated one run in the home half of the eighth to bring the score to 3-2, in favor of State College. With Diogenes Luis on third and one out Nommensen singled to center field which allowed Luis to advance 90 feet and bring the score to its final, 3-2.
The Renegades take on the State College Spikes tomorrow night at Dutchess Stadium for game-two of the three game series. The Spikes will be giving the ball to right-hander Kyle McPherson (2-2, 3.45) and the Renegades will be giving the nod to righty Alexander Colome (4-1, 1.60). First Pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
