Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
Williamsport and Jamestown were tied at six heading into the top of 9th when the Jammers would go on to score two runs propelling them to a come from behind 8-6 victory over the Cutters. The loss was Williamsport's sixth in a row.
Williamsport jumped out to an early scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Leadoff hitter CF Carl Uhl reached base via an error, then moved to second on a single by 2B Adam Buschini. With RF Leandro Castro batting Jammers starting pitcher Holden Sprague (0-0, 5.79) uncorked a wild pitch allowing Uhl and Buschini to advance to 2nd and 3rd. Castro proceeded to ground out to short for an RBI followed by 1B Darin Ruf's RBI groundout to short giving the Cutters a quick 2-0 lead.
Williamsport added to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd when Castro and Ruf hit back-to-back home runs to left center putting the Cutters lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the 5th the Crosscutters once again added to their lead when LF Stephen Batts hit an RBI single plating DH Francisco Murillo who reached base on a fielder's choice.
Williamsport starter Siulman LeBron (4-4, 3.96) was dealing through the first five innings, allowing only three hits; however, things started to unravel in the top of the 6th as the Jammers were able to muster four runs against the righty closing the lead to 5-4. In all, LeBron pitched six innings yielding eight hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out three.
In the top of the 7th Jamestown tied the game as RF Austin Markel hit his second home run of the season to right field. Markel finished the game 3 for 5 with two runs scored and one RBI. A free agent pickup of the Jammers Markel has been crushing the Cutters pitching staff as he is 6 for 11 with 5 RBIs and three runs scored in just two games.
Jamestown pushed another run past the plate in the 7th to grab their first lead of the game 6-5.
In the bottom half of the 7th the Cutters tied the game at six when Murillo hit a deep solo home run to left field, the Cutters 3rd longball of the night.
With the score tied at six heading into the top of the 9th newly called up RHP Justin Beal (0-1, 6.00) allowed the Jammers to score two runs and the Crosscutters were unable to muster any offense in the bottom of the 9th, going down in order.
The Crosscutters and Jammers will conclude the three game series on Monday night as Williamsport looks to snap their six-game losing streak. Monday night's game begins at 7:05 and can be heard on ESPN 1050AM, 104.1 FM and online at crosscutters.com.
