Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
HIGHLIGHTS: The Williamsport Crosscutters won their sixth straight with a 2-1 victory at Vermont on Wednesday night.
All three of the runs in the game were plated in the 3rd inning. In the Cutters half of the frame, with two out, Troy Hanzawa walked and Daniel Hargrave homered to left field to give Williamsport an early two run lead.
Vermont came back to score a run in the bottom of the 3rd on a two-out solo homer by Blake Stouffer. That run would be the only one allowed by Cutters pitching in the contest who would combine to strikeout 15 Vermont batters.
Cutters starter Freddy Ballestas (2-2) picked up the win allowing just one run on two hits, while fanning 10 in 6 innings of work. New Williamsport pitchers Sean Grieve and Jason Ellis pitched a perfect final three innings, striking out 5 of the 9 batters they faced.
The win puts the Cutters over the .500 mark with a record of 14-13. Williamsport sits 5 ½ games behind Jamestown in the Pinckney division and just 1 ½ games out of 2nd place. Williamsport and Vermont tangle again Thursday and Friday before the Cutters return home for a 3-game series with Mahoning Valley starting on Saturday
CUTTERS RECORD: 14-13
