
Cutters' Bats Quiet in First Loss

The State College Spikes salvaged the final game of the first SawBuck series, defeating the visiting Williamsport Crosscutters 3-0 in front of a record crowd of 5,836 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The Spikes scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second, highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of Brian Sharp. They added another in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Carlos Mesa.
Four Spikes pitchers combined for the shutout, highlighted by Ryan Benedict and Bryce Weidman, who each threw three scoreless innings.
Williamsport starter Lino Martinez pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three. Relievers Hector Neris and Ryan Duke each tossed a scoreless inning.
The Crosscutters head to Jamestown, N.Y. for their next three games before returning to Williamsport to open a three-game homestead versus Batavia starting June 23. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
