Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Tonight's Match-up
The IronBirds and Hudson Valley Renegades (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) will meet today in the rubber match of a three-game series. The Renegades took last night's game by a final score of 3-1. Aberdeen will have right-hander David Baker on the mound. Baker was the Orioles' 14th round pick in the 2009 draft. He'll go up against left-hander Jacob Partridge. The southpaw will be the first lefty the IronBirds have faced in 2011.
Bats Silenced
After scoring seven runs on nine hits in an opening day win, the IronBirds' bats went silent last night. Hudson Valley pitchers Jason McEachern and Andrew Leary combined to allow just one run on three hits. The IronBirds hit into three different double plays, killing any potential rallies.
Cooney and Gamboa
The IronBirds bullpen has been bolstered by two arms from Double-A. Brandon Cooney and Eddie Gamboa have combined to throw four scoreless innings through the first two games of the season. Cooney pitched a perfect inning last night. Gamboa is expected to make one more outing for the IronBirds.
âBirds Bullpen
The IronBirds' bullpen has thrown eight innings so far this season. Gamboa, Cooney, James Brandhorst, Zach Petersime and Angel Cespedes have combined to allow just two earned runs so far. Through two games the bullpen's ERA is 2.25.
Power Outage
Aberdeen is still looking for its first triple and home run of the 2011 season. The IronBirds did not have an extra base hit in last night's game. The club managed just three singles.
Hello Brooklyn
The IronBirds will board a bus tomorrow morning and head to Brooklyn for their first road series of the season. The IronBirds play their first 19 games against teams in the division. Following the three-game set with the Cyclones, the IronBirds return home for a six-game home stand against the Staten Island Yankees and Brooklyn.
