Altoona Curve News Release

HARRISBURG, PA - Altoona kept their winnings ways going behind starter Mike Crotta and shortstop Brian Friday on their way to a 2-1 win over Harrisburg Tuesday night at Metro Bank Park.

The Curve struck first right out of the gates when a fielding error on a Brad Corley hit scored Friday.

Harrisburg scored their first run of the series when Freddie Bynum crossed the plate on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1 after three innings.

Friday jumpstarted the Curve offense again in the fifth, doubling to start the inning and then scoring on a single by Jim Negrych to put Altoona up 2-1.

Friday finished 2-for-5 with a double and scored both of the Curve's runs.

Crotta (3-0) remained unbeaten with the longest start of any Curve pitcher throwing eight strong innings allowing one run on just four hits and struck out seven. Reliever Jean Machi picked up his third save of the season in as many tries to secure the Curve win.

With the win Altoona (10-20) ensures their first series win of the 2009 season. The Curve will have their brooms out looking for the sweep bright and early Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 10:35 a.m. Altoona will put left hander Daniel Moskos (1-2, 5.02) on the mound and Harrisburg (6-23) will counter with righty Adrian Alaniz (1-1, 5.27). Radio coverage for Wednesday's ballgame will begin at 10:20 on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
