Connecticut Defenders News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Defenders didn't have the excitement of top prospects getting called up heading into Tuesday night's matchup against New Britain but they did manage to win their fourth consecutive game for the first time all season, 4-2 at New Britain Stadium.

3B-Brad Boyer's two RBI double down the right field line in the third inning put Connecticut out in front and they added one more for insurance in the fifth to seal the win in game two.

RF-Antoan Richardson singled to lead the ballgame off then got bumped over to second on a SS-Brandon Crawford dribbler to first. Richardson stole third (5th) and quickly ran home on a 1B-Brett Pill RBI single to center to give the Defenders a 1-0 lead.

Richardson got hit by a pitch to begin the third inning. Felmy reached on a fielder's choice then stole second with one out to put runners in scoring position. CF-Mike Mooney drew a walk to load the bases and Boyer ripped a double to plate two.

With the score at 3-0 Connecticut, the Rock Cats fired back in the fourth inning when 3B-Danny Valencia reached on a fielder's choice then 1B-Whit Robbins hit a two run homer over the right field wall to pull New Britain within one, 3-2. Robbins went 3 for 3, adding a pair of singles to his homer.

Defender's starter, RHP-Daryl Maday (2-1) allowed two earned runs off of seven hits and struck out two in 6.1 innings of work, his longest outing of the season while picking up his second win.

In the fifth, LF-Bobby Felmy cranked his fourth homerun of the season over the right field wall to push the score to 5-2 Connecticut.

RHP-Matt Fox (1-2) suffered the loss allowing four earned runs off of eight hits, walked one and fanned five in 5.1 innings.

New Britain would get a chance in the seventh inning with runners in scoring position with only one out but LHP-Ben Snyder came in and struck out Tosoni then got Lehmann to groundout. The Rock Cats loaded the bases in the eighth on Snyder for another opportunity but 2B-Brian Dinkleman struck out swinging, leaving three stranded.

Dan Otero came in to close the game in the ninth and did just that, picking up his eighth save in eight opportunities while striking out one.

The Defenders will look for the series sweep tomorrow morning at 10:35am when RHP-Brooks McNiven (1-1) takes the bump versus the Rock Cats' RHP-Jeff Manship(2-3).
