Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - Yoslan Herrera had his strongest outing of the season and Altoona snapped a five game losing streak, taking the series finale against Bowie 3-1 Thursday afternoon at Blair County Ballpark.
The 28 year old Cuban tossed a season high six shutout innings giving up just three hits, striking out three, and walking only two in his first win as a starter in 2009 moving his record to 3-0.
After five and a half scoreless innings the Curve got the bats going with back to back singles by Pedro Lopez and Jim Negrych. Lopez would score the first run of the game on a wild pitch and Negrych would score a few pitches later on a Jonel Pacheco single ripped down the left field line.
Bowie would respond in their next trip to the plate on an RBI single by Joe Nowicki to cut the Curve lead to 2-1.
Altoona was not done yet though adding an insurance run in the bottom half of the seventh on a Negrych single that had eyes just over the short stop's glove to score Angel Gonzalez. Negrych finished the day 2-for4 for his 12th multi hit game of the season to lead the team and his fifth multi hit game in his last eight outings.
The Curve (15-31) are now on the road for seven games beginning with a three game series with the Trenton Thunder (22-22). It will be Altoona's first time facing a team from the Eastern League North Division this season. On the mound for Altoona will be big right hander Mike Crotta (3-1, 4.00) and he will be facing Trenton's lefty Wilkin de la Rosa (1-2, 4.75). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
