Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Ruben Tejada hit his first home run in AA and Binghamton tried to complete another comeback victory, but fell short of the Defenders 8-7. Four B-Mets collected two hits on the day, but Joe Paterson shut down Binghamton in the ninth to record his fourth save in as many chances.
Tejada launched a two-run shot off Connecticut starter Henry Sosa to give Binghamton the lead 4-2 in the fifth inning. It was the sixth of his pro-career. D.J. Wabick had led off the inning with a single and scored on the Tejada dinger.
Connecticut (26-20) came back to score four and take the lead for good in the seventh on a two-run single off the bat of Eddy Martinez-Esteve and a two-run double by Brett Pill. Both run-scoring hits came off B-Mets reliever Eric Brown, who took the loss.
After Binghamton (20-24) cut the lead to 6-5 in the seventh, the Defenders added two more in the eighth off Brown. The B-Mets answered with two runs of their own in the eighth making the score 8-7. The first run came via double by Josh Thole off Defenders' reliever Jesse Foppert driving in Emmanuel Garcia. Matt Yourkin replaced Foppert and allowed Thole to score on wild pitch before striking out the side.
Tobi Stoner went 6.1 innings giving up three runs on five hits in a no-decision. It was his third quality start of the year in just four outings. Sosa was the winner, going six innings, giving up a season-high four runs on five hits.
Binghamton will open up a seven-game roadtrip tomorrow night beginning with three at New Britain. RHP Ryan Coultas (3-2, 3.00 ERA) will take the mound for the B-Mets and New Britain will counter with RHP Jeff Manship (4-3, 5.55 ERA). The first pitch is slated for 6:35 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
