Connecticut Defenders News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Defenders and B-Mets played another seesaw battle Thursday morning but Connecticut held onto an 8-7 victory to earn a series split as well as wrapped up a winning road-trip going 5-1.
Connecticut plated two key runs in the eighth inning off an RBI single by C-Jackson Williams and a sac fly by 2B-Brock Bond to escape with the win.
Déjà vu occurred in the fourth inning as both teams exchanged two runs before SS-Ruben Tejada pulled a two run homer over the left field wall to give the B-Mets their only lead of the game at 4-2.
The Defenders responded with their largest offensive output of the day in the seventh inning. Pinch hitter Antoan Richardson drew a one out walk, Bond singled and with two outs, RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve bolted a two RBI double into the alleyway completing a 3 for 5 day for the Miami native with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. LF-Bobby Felmy followed drawing an intentional walk to get to 1B-Brett Pill who made Binghamton pay with a flare to right field that RF-D.J. Wabick dove for but came up empty as two runs scored, giving the Defenders a 6-4 advantage.
The B-Mets got one run back in the home half of the seventh but pulled the game within one run in the eighth taking advantage of a C-Josh Thole RBI double and then a wild pitch by Matt Yourkin scoring Thole from third.
Joe Patterson picked up his fourth save of the year as he struck out Garcia to seal the game.
Defender's starter, RHP-Henry Sosa (4-0) stayed undefeated allowing four earned runs off of five hits, walked one and struck out one in six innings of work. B-Mets reliever, RHP-Eric Brown (2-1) blew the save and suffered the loss in just 1.1 innings of relief, allowing four earned runs off of four hits and walked two.
Connecticut heads home for a seven game home-stand starting with a three game set versus the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox). LHP-Madison Bumgarner (3-0) takes the bump against the Sea Dogs, RHP-Ryne Lawson (1-2). First pitch is slated for 6:35pm.
