August 1, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Start spreading the news, the Altoona Curve return home on Tuesday, August 2nd for a six-game homestand featuring three games each against the affiliates of teams from New York. The week-long stay in Curve, PA, which runs from Aug. 2-7 at Blair County Ballpark, is highlighted by three different giveaways, including a Rudy Owens Perm Hat Giveaway and two Fireworks nights. The Curve will play the Binghamton Mets (New York Mets' affiliate) Aug 2-4, and then the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees' affiliate) Aug. 5-7.
It all gets started on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as the Binghamton Mets make their first appearance in Altoona this season. The promotions begin with a Two-for-Tuesday with Fireworks! Two-for-Tuesdays at Blair County Ballpark mean fans can take advantage of two-for-one offers on all tickets, hot dogs and small popcorns thanks to Atlantic Broadband and KRAFT Singles. Making the night even more value-packed will be a post-game Fireworks spectacular.
The series continues on Wednesday on a night filled with special discounts for Curve fans. All fans 12 and under will be admitted absolutely free into Blair County Ballpark as part of the seventh Galliker's Kids' Club Night. Fans already in the Kids' Club should remember to bring their membership card, while fans new to the club can sign up easily and without cost at the Curve Box Office upon arrival for the 7 p.m. game. Additionally, for the Curve's Let's Go Bucs special, for this night only, Curve fans will be offered tickets in the Grandstand (300) Level based on what place the Pittsburgh Pirates are in at the time of purchase. Tickets in the Grandstand level could be as low as $1 if the Pirates are in first place for a ticket that is regularly priced at $6.
Wednesday is also a Ponderosa Four-Pack Wednesday where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four regular sodas all for $30 thanks to Ponderosa Steakhouses. In addition to the valuable ticket and concessions offers, the Curve will present Mascot Movie Night with Steamer and the rest of the mascot crew taking over the show. The ballpark characters will perform different skits from five movies throughout the evening with live performances and hilarious video shorts.
The series with Binghamton concludes on Thursday at 7 p.m., and it will be the last of four Summer Cruise Series dates that features a giveaway to the first 500 fans 21 and older. All fans that have collected all four items in the series, and bring them to the game on September 4th vs. Richmond, will be entered to win a drawing for a cruise for four thanks to Nittany Travel.
"All the Right Moves" will be Tom Cruise film of choice this time and the first 500 fans 21 & up will receive a foam football, honoring Cruise's role in the film as football player, Stefen Djordjevic. Not coincidentally, the 1983 film was shot almost entirely in nearby Johnstown, PA. It will also be a Thirsty Thursday at BCB thanks to Rocky 104.9 with $2 draft specials on 16oz. Miller Lite and $1.50 specials on small 22oz. sodas.
Friday will mark the first meeting of the season between the Curve and the Trenton Thunder at Blair County Ballpark and on this Freebie Friday, the Curve have a very fitting and unique giveaway. Last season, the Curve defeated the Thunder to win the Eastern League Championship, and an integral part of the team was Curve pitcher Rudy Owens. In honor of Owens, fans will be able to feel what it's like to have the power of the perm with a Rudy Owens Perm Hat Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans who enter the gates at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. game thanks to Mid-Atlantic Dairy.
Another giveaway is on tap on Saturday for the Curve's 7 p.m. contest as the Curve will be handing out Mystery Autographed Baseballs to the first 1,000 fans. However, you don't know which one you'll get! It could be a Curve or Pirates' player or possibly a limited-edition, signed "pearl" by Mike Pence - no, not the Senator from the state of Indiana - but the Altoona Curve's Director of Ticketing. Saturday is also a Community Collection Saturday as fans are asked to bring in non-perishable food items to benefit the St. Vincent De Paul Society Soup Kitchen Food Drive. Saturday marks the final Scout Night of the season, too, as the Curve invite scout groups to take in the game at BCB, enjoy a movie on the video board, and camp out overnight on the field.
The homestand concludes on Sunday at 6 p.m. with Sunday Night Fireworks, as the Curve will host another spectacular fireworks display following the game. Sunday will also be Ladies Night at the ballpark thanks to the Circulatory Centers as the Curve will be handing out over $5,000 in prizes that range from high-end purses to spa treatments all-game long. Fans are encouraged to bring their gloves to have a Sunday Catch on the field from 5 p.m. to 5:25 p.m.
As has been the case for the entire 2011 season, following the Friday, Saturday and Sunday games, kids will get to run the bases after the game. Additionally, kids will run the bases after the game after Wednesday night's Kids' Club game as well.
