Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Reading, PA) - The Reading Phillies, the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies since 1967 - the longest affiliation in all of baseball, are set to celebrate one of its former players with a fantastic day at America's Classic Ballpark this season. On Tuesday, August 2, the first 3,000 adults will receive an instant collectible - a Carlos Ruiz Bobble Head with "Chooching" Owl, thanks to FirstEnergy.
"Everyone loves Chooch -- even animals," said R-Phils GM Scott Hunsicker. "Carlos is one of the most popular players to ever come through Reading, and we wanted to honor him. We know how much Carlos loves animals, and we know how much animals love him, so the Carlos Ruiz Bobble Head also features a friendly owl that says "Chooch" at the push of a button. It's a perfect fit."
Tuesday's are always great for fans, and Tuesday, August 2 is shaping up to be the best Tuesday of the season. First, VIST Financial Plaza gates are set to open at 4:00 p.m., and the first 3,000 adults will receive the Carlos Ruiz "Chooching" Owl. Named by ESPN as one of the top promotions of the 2011 season, the giveaway features former R-Phils catcher and current Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz with his arm around an owl. The owl speaks the word "Chooch" -- Carlos' popular nickname -- at the push of a button, and will be a great addition to anyone's collection.
As part of the excitement on Tuesday, and since everyone loves "Chooch" -- even the animals, there will be live owls and other critters for fans to interact with, thanks to the Lehigh Valley Zoo and 830 AM WEEU.
Fans 21-years-old and older can enjoy Happy Hour, with $1 off all beers from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., thanks to Miller Lite. The Weston Center Winning Smiles Stage will also be rocking with great music from The Uptown Band (4:00 - 6:30 p.m.).
As with every Tuesday game this season, all active military and veterans will receive $3.00 off Yellow Box Seats thanks to Genesis HealthCare. Tuesday is also a Senior Club Game with $3.00 off tickets. With this, all Senior Club members are invited to attend a poolside chat with R-Phils players at 5pm, courtesy of Genesis HealthCare.
The Reading Phillies will host the Harrisburg Senators on August 2 in game one of their three-game series from America's Classic Ballpark, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Harrisburg -- the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, currently feature the first pick in the 2010 draft, Bryce Harper. Harper, who was promoted to the Senators on July 4, 2011, hit .318 with 14 home runs, 46 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases for Hagerstown (A) earlier this season. He is currently ranked by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Washington Nationals organization, and among the top prospects in all of baseball.
