
Eastern League Names Pitcher and Player of the Week

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 25th through July 31st:
Bowie Baysox outfielder LJ Hoes has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 25th-July 31st. The 21-year old appeared in eight games for the Baysox last week and batted .462 (12-for-26) with one double, four home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored, six walks, two stolen bases and a .962 slugging percentage. Hoes, who is a native of Bowie, Maryland, reached base in all eight games he played in during the week and had multiple hits in five of those games. His multiple hit performances included hitting a pair of home runs in a 6-2 win against Harrisburg on Tuesday night and a second two home run performance in a 4-3 loss in the opening game of a doubleheader at New Britain on Friday. The 6'1", 181 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in home runs (4), total bases (25), slugging percentage (.962) and OPS (1.507) last week and tied for the lead in runs scored (7). Hoes is batting .318 with 35 RBI and 29 runs scored in 61 games with the Baysox since being promoted from Class-A Frederick on May 23rd. LJ, who entered the season rated by Baseball America as the fourth best prospect in the Orioles organization, was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the third round of the 2008 draft out of St. John's High School in Washington, D.C.
Tanner Roark, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Harrisburg Senators, has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 25th-July 31st. The 6'2", 220 lb. hurler made two appearances for the Senators last week and had a record of 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched. Roark, who is a native of Wilmington, Illinois, made his first start of the week on Monday at Bowie and gave up one unearned run on four hits while striking out seven batters over eight innings to earn the win for the Senators in a 13-2 victory. The 24-year old also earned a win in his second start of the week on Saturday against Binghamton at Metro Bank Park. He surrendered three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three batters over 6.1 innings of work to lead Harrisburg to a 5-3 victory. Roark led all Eastern League pitchers in wins (2) and innings pitched (14.1) last week and ranked seventh among the weekly leaders in WHIP (0.84) and batting average against (.167). Tanner was acquired by the Washington Nationals with Ryan Tatusko from the Texas Rangers in a trade for Cristian Guzman on July 31, 2010. He was originally drafted by Texas in the 25th round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Illinois.
