Cubs outlast RedHawks

The Iowa Cubs scored four runs in the final two innings as they defeated the Oklahoma RedHawks 8-4 Friday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Geovany Soto led the way for the Cubs going 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

The Cubs scored a run in the first and two in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead. The Cubs finished the night with 11 hits.

The RedHawks got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning, including a Nate Gold solo homer. After the Cubs added a run in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead, the RedHawks tied the game with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth.

Iowa (66-54) took control of the game with one run in the eighth and three in the ninth, giving them a 8-4 lead. Oklahoma (59-58) allowed all three runs after an error in the ninth.

The RedHawks used three pitchers in the game, with Derek Lee (0-2) taking the loss out of the bullpen, allowing one run on two hits in three innings of relief. The Cubs used for pitchers in the game, with Ben Howard (6-5) getting the win out of the bullpen, pitching two scoreless innings.

The same two teams play Saturday at 7:05 pm CDT at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
