Sidewinders Take Series Opener From Fresno

Tucson, Ariz. - The Sidewinders took the first game of their four-game series from the Fresno Grizzlies Friday night 4-1 at Tucson Electric Park.

Sidewinders starter Bill Murphy pitched six innings for the Sidewinders allowing one run on three hits and two walks to lead the team to victory.

Tucson did all their scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jeff Salazar led off the inning with a single. Chris Carter followed with a double off of Fresno starter Matt Palmer, that scored Salazar. Jamie D'Antona reached on an error by third baseman Tomas De La Rosa that allowed Carter to score on the play making the score 2-0. Robby Hammock continued the hitting with a double of his own scoring D'Antona. Matt Erickson knocked in Hammock to make the score 4-0 and that was all the Sidewinders would get in the inning.

Erickson extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his single in the fourth.

The Grizzlies' lone run came in the second inning when Scott McClain walked. Two batters later Eliezer Alfonzo doubled to score McClain.
