(PK Park - Eugene, OR) - A single from CF Jeff Bercume and a gutsy call from Manager Rick Magnante helped the Vancouver Canadians to a 2-1 victory over the Eugene Emeralds on Sunday afternoon out at PK Park in Eugene, Oregon.

The Canadians opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning when 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones crushed his fourth home run of the season over the left field fence off of Eugene starter LHP Josh Spence to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead.

Eugene finally got to Canadians starter LHP Anvioris Ramirez in the bottom of the 5th inning tying the game at 1-1. With one out, Canadian-born 2B Christian Bisson singled, advanced to second on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a double steal. Bisson stole third base and a throw from Vancouver C John Nester sailed into the outfield allowing the native of Orleans, Ontario to score uncontested.

Vancouver regained the lead in the top of the 9th inning when Eugene closer RHP Aaron Everett came in and with one out hit Canadians SS Michael Fabiaschi, who advanced to second on a single from 1B Marcos Luis and surprisingly came around to score on a single from CF Jeff Bercume. Canadians Manager Rick Magnante waved Fabiaschi around from third base despite RF Oscar Garcia already holding the ball challenging the Eugene outfielder to make the throw which was off the mark allowing Fabiaschi to score.

NOTE: The run in the top of the 9th inning was the first that RHP Aaron Everett had allowed in 12 appearances.

Canadians Manager Rick Magnante brought in closer RHP A.J. Griffin who locked down his 5th save of the season retiring the Emeralds in order in the bottom of the 9th inning.

With the victory, Vancouver improves to 16-21 (.432) on the season and move into sole possession of 3rd in the Northwest League West Division. The Canadians also win consecutive games away from Scotiabank Field for the first time this season and take their first series from Eugene this summer.
