YAKIMA, Wash. - Back-to-back hit batsmen in the bottom of the 11th gave the Yakima Bears (16-20) a walk-off win over the Boise Hawks (19-17) in front of 2,379 fans at County Stadium Saturday night.

After Mike Freeman and Westley Moss reached on infield singles in the home half of the 11th, Hawks reliever Aaron Kurcz retired the next two batters before plunking Raoul Torrez to load the bases. Roberto Ortiz then stepped up to the plate and was hit by the first pitch he saw to bring in the winning run.

The Bears stranded the potential winning run on second in the ninth and on third in the tenth before breaking through with the back-to-back hit-by-pitches.

Jake Hale (1-2) pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings, striking out two to earn the win. Kurcz (1-1) went 2/3 of an inning, allowing a run on two hits to take the loss.

Yakima overcame an early 2-0 lead on a Henry Zabala RBI groundout and Justin Hilt run-scoring single. In the top of the sixth they fell behind 5-2 before tying the game in the bottom half on a Yazy Arbelo RBI double and two unearned runs following fielding error by Hawks first baseman Richard Jones.

Arbelo went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Jhoan Pimentel also collected two hits with a double, a run and an RBI. Jimmy Comerota stole three bases and scored a run.

Yakima and Boise will play game two of the series Sunday evening at 5:35. Miguel Pena (0-4, 4.18) is set to pitch for the Bears against Juan Serrano (4-0, 4.42) for the Hawks.
