Lake Erie Crushers News Release

CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers dropped the first game of a three-game set with the Windy City ThunderBolts Sunday night at Standard Bank Stadium, falling 8-5.

The ThunderBolts got on the board immediately in the first, scoring three times against Crushers starter Phil Rummel. Jeremy Hamilton bounced out to second with Brandon Anderson on third to score a run before Ryne White lined a single to right to plate Ryan Basham and Zach Aakhus and put Windy City ahead 3-0.

The Crushers pulled back to within one in the ensuing frame, as they rallied with two outs against Windy City hurler Sean Toler. Back-to-back singles from Joel Collins and Casey McGrew got things started and Arden McWilliams was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Dom Duggan, who knocked one just past the outstretched glove of Gilberto Mejia to score two and make the score 3-2.

That would be as close as Lake Erie would get, however, as the ThunderBolts scored in four consecutive innings to pull away for the victory. Two of the runs came in the fourth, one on a Gilberto Mejia groundout and one on an Anderson single. Single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh came on RBI-doubles from Mike Torres and Ryan Basham and an RBI-single from Mejia respectively to push the home side's advantage to 8-2.

Lake Erie scored in the eighth when Joel Collins ripped a single to center, his second hit of the day, to score Andrew Davis. With two men on however, Casey McGrew and Arden McWilliams came up empty against Windy City's Greg Johnson and the score stayed at 8-3.

The Crushers brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, picking up two runs when Drew Saylor singled with the bases loaded to score Raphael Turner and Andrew Davis. However, closer Nick Hall struck out Collins looking to end the game.

Collins as well as Andrew Davis, Eddie Tisdale and Dom Duggan each had two hits for the Crushers, who posted their ten-hit performance since July 9. Gilberto Mejia, Brandon Anderson, Ryan Basham, Ryne White and Nick Kuroczko all had multi-hit days for Windy City, which totaled 13 hits on the evening.

The series resumes Monday evening at 8:05 Eastern Time, with the Crushers scheduled to send RHP Matt Smith (7-4, 3.62) opposing RHP Dustin Williams (3-3, 2.94) for the ThunderBolts.

EXTRA SWINGS:

>Raphael Turner walked three times for Lake Erie, the second time a Crusher has walked three times in a game this season.

>Dom Duggan stole two bases, his 26th and 27th officially on the season, his 28th counting a bag he swiped in Saturday's suspended game with Oakland County

>Casey McGrew picked up his first official hit of his career, an infield single to third base.
