Normal CornBelters News Release
NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, lost opener of a three game series at home to the Gateway Grizzlies 4-2 Sunday evening at the Corn Crib in Normal. The loss is the third straight for Normal.
Starting pitcher Bobby Pritchett took the loss in his first start of the season. Pritchett tossed seven innings allowing five hits and three earned runs to go along with eight strikeouts. Pritchett had been coming out of the bullpen prior to Sunday. One of Pritchett's biggest mistakes was a two run home run in the fourth inning off the bat of Gordon Gronkowski of Gateway.
Normal's offense pounded out seven hits of their own highlighted by a Daniel Cox solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was Cox's ninth home run on the year and he finished the day 1-3 with a walk as well. Seven CornBelters registered hits, but no one had a multi hit game.
Normal and Gateway square off Monday night for the second game of the set at the Corn Crib with the first pitch slated for 7pm.
