
Crushers Edge Freedom in Series Opener, 3-1

The Oakland County Cruisers scored single runs in the first, fourth, and seventh innings to defeat the Florence Freedom 3-1 on Tuesday night at Champion Window Field.
The visitors struck first in the top of the first, as Zack Pace opened the game with a walk against Freedom starter Everett Saul (1-2). Martin Parra then singled Pace to third, and Jimmy Baker then stroked an RBI single to left field to give the Cruisers a 1-0 lead.
Oakland County increased the advantage to 2-0 in the fourth. Joash Brodin reached on a catcher's interference against Justin Pickett. After a walk to Jeremy Jones, Robbie Tolan then plated the run with an RBI single.
It became a 3-0 game in the top of the seventh, as Ben Barrone led with a home run against Saul. The Freedom would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh as newcomer Stephen Schulz blasted his first home run as a Freedom player to close the scoring.
Saul took the loss, going seven innings, and Austin Bridges and Chris Holguin finished up.
The series continues on Wednesday night, as Austin Chambliss opposes James Albury for the Cruisers. Game time is at 7:05 PM.
