WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things scored on a squeeze play with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday night to take game one of a three-game series 6-5 over the Gateway Grizzlies at Consol Energy Park.
Eric Gilliland (1-1) took the loss for the Grizzlies. It was the first run that Gilliland has allowed in five relief appearances this year. Tuesday's game was the fourth time this year that Gateway has played extra innings. They are now 2-2 in extras.
The Grizzlies (10-7) got a pair of late home runs to tie the game and force extra innings. Charlie Lisk hit his league-leading seventh home run of the year in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to one run at 5-4. Brandon Peters then hit his second homer of the year with two outs in the ninth inning to even the score at five.
