
Crushers Double up Rascals

Lake Erie Crushers News Release
O'FALLON, Mo. - The Lake Erie Crushers opened a three-game series with the River City Rascals by doubling up the hosts 4-2.
The Crushers opened the scoring in the top of the third inning. Dom Duggan posted an infield single with one out and moved to second on a throwing error by the catcher. Duggan stole third and crossed the plate when Jodam Rivera singled past the diving River City first baseman. Rivera stole second and was later thrown out at the plate attempting to score on a single off the bat of Andrew Davis.
Lake Erie built the lead to 3-0 with two runs in the top of the fifth. Joel Collins ignited the rally with a one-out single. Dom Duggan followed with a walk and Jodam Rivera singled to load the bases for Drew Saylor. River City starter Gary Moran left with blisters on his pitching hand following two pitches to Saylor. Diego Soto entered and issued a bases loaded walk to Saylor, forcing in a run. Soto unloaded a wild pitch to enable Duggan to score.
Duggan helped stretch the lead to 4-0 in the top of the seventh. Duggan drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored on a wild pitch. River City attempted to rally in the bottom of the inning as Scot Robinson led off with a solo homer to right. The Rascals pulled within 4-2 on an unearned run but left the bases loaded for the ninth time this season.
Travis Risser tossed a season high 6.2 innings to notch his first victory of the season. Risser allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits to go with a walk and three strikeouts. The bullpen did not allow a hit as Ronnie Morales threw 1.1 innings and closer Alberto Rolon spun a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to record his fourth save.
Jodam Rivera recorded three hits to lead the offense. Andrew Davis also notched two hits while Dom Duggan scored three of the four runs.
The series continues with a day game tomorrow. RHP Josh Roberts (1-0, 1.42) takes to the mound for a 12:05 p.m. game opposite River City's Tim Woodward (1-1, 5.12).
