Syracuse Crunch News Release
Syracuse, NY - Two goals from Patrick Maroon helped the Crunch extend their point-streak to nine games, but the Crunch suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to the Adirondack Phantoms tonight at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The Crunch remain in playoff position holding onto the seventh in the Eastern Conference with seven games remaining in the regular season.
After a scoreless first period the Crunch jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the second period. Former Phantom Patrick Maroon beat Phantoms netminder Michael Leighton with a wrist shot off a pass from J.F. Jacques for his 30th goal of the season just 1:05 into the middle frame.
The Phantoms tied the game with a goal from right wing Matt Ford at the 6:19 mark of the second period. Ford beat Crunch goaltender Iiro Tarkki for his team leading 25th goal of the season.
Defenseman Nick Schaus regained the Crunch lead with his fourth goal of the season at the 10:37 mark of the second period. Brandon McMillan found Schaus as he was pinching in from the blue line and Schaus ripped a one-timer past Leighton to give the Crunch a 2-1 lead.
Maroon scored his second goal of the game by deflecting a Mat Clark shot past Leighton to extend the Crunch lead to 3-1 midway through the second period.
Andrew Rowe cut the Crunch lead to one after scoring at the 6:50 mark of the third period. Rowe carried the puck down the left wing before firing a shot over the shoulder of Tarkki.
Phantoms center Ben Holmstrom forced overtime when he tied the game with 3:14 remaining in regulation and Jason Akeson scored 3:01 into the extra session to give the Phantoms a 4-3 win.
