Crunch Right Wing Kyle Palmieri Named to 2011 U.S. National Junior Team Preliminary Roster

Syracuse, NY (December 7, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that USA Hockey has named Crunch right wing Kyle Palmieri to the 29-player preliminary 2011 U.S. National Junior Team roster. The final U.S. National Junior Team 22-man roster will be announced prior to Team USA's final exhibition game against Norway. The 2011 U.S. National Junior Team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, December 26, 2010 - January 5, 2011, in Buffalo and Niagara, New York.

Palmieri, 19, has appeared in 17 games with the Crunch this season and is tied for second on the club in scoring with 13 points (9g, 4a). His nine goals lead the team and are tied for sixth among all AHL rookies. He has also skated in 10 games with Anaheim this year and scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game on November 3 vs. Tampa Bay. In addition, Palmieri was named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week after tallying six points (5g, 1a) in three games for the week ending October 31.

A native of Smithtown, New York, Palmieri appeared in 33 games during his freshman season at the University of Notre Dame (CCHA) in 2009-10, recording 17 points (9g, 8a). He was selected by Anaheim in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Palmieri is one of eight returning players named to the preliminary roster from the gold-medal winning 2010 U.S. National Junior Team, including goaltender Jack Campbell (Port Huron, Michigan.); defenseman John Ramage (Chesterfield, Missouri./Univ. of Wisconsin); and forwards Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Massachusetts.), Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, New York./RPI), Chris Kreider (Boxford, Massachusetts/Boston College), Jeremy Morin (Auburn, New York), and Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nevada/Univ. of Denver).
