Crunch Beat Binghamton 2-1 for First Win of 2010-11

Syracuse, NY - It took four games and a stellar 31-save performance from rookie Timo Pielmeier, but the Syracuse Crunch squeaked out their first win of 2010-11 and first victory as an affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, defeating the Binghamton Senators by a 2-1 count tonight in front of 5,215 fans at the War Memorial at Oncenter.

Knowing they needed a fast start offensively, the Crunch wasted no time when Brandon McMillan broke in on a 2-on-1 from the left wing and elected to shoot, ripping a wrister inside the far post to give the Crunch a 1-0 lead just 3:58 into the game.

The Crunch went up 2-0 later in the first when they capitalized on another 2-on-1 opportunity. Nick Bonino broke in and faked a shot to open up a passing lane through the defenseman and floated a perfect pass to Nicolas Deschamps, who didn't miss the open side to put Syracuse up 2-0 at the 14:27 mark.

The score stayed that way until the waning moments of the game, when Binghamton's Bobby Butler was credited with a goal after a goal mouth scramble. There was a discrepancy as to whether the puck went over the line, but the tally eventually stood, ruining Pielmeier's shutout bid with 1:10 remaining.
