Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Following a successful 2008-09 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, in which both Crew Soccer Academy (CSA) squads qualified for the U.S. Development Academy Playoffs in Greensboro, N.C., a trio of its standouts have been honored with selection to postseason Starting XI squads. The most decorated of them is 17/18s defender Matt Wiet, who became the first CSA player ever named to the prestigious, national Development Academy Starting XI.

Wiet, who started 25 games and tallied four assists, while helping his team to nine shutouts, also earned all-conference honors. He is joined on the Central Conference Starting XI by teammate Justin Luthy, a goalkeeper who started 19 games and posted a 10-5-4 record, while allowing just 22 goals.

Wiet, a native of Worthington, and Luthy, of Dublin, have also both parlayed their success with CSA into recent U.S. National Teams call-ups, at the Under-20 and U-18 levels, respectively. Wiet will attend perennial national power Indiana in the fall and Luthy is bound for Boston College.

At the 15/16 level, midfielder Wil Trapp was named to the Central Conference Starting XI after a season in which he started all 29 of the team's games and totaled six goals and 10 assists.
