SIX HOME MATCHES REMAIN FOR CHIVAS USA, WITH NEXT ON AUG. 22 AGAINST TORONTO: With more than half of Chivas USA's league schedule played, the Red-and-White have just six remaining home matches in 2009. The first of these six comes on Saturday, Aug. 22, against the Toronto FC, and starting with that match, Chivas USA is offering fans a special chance to catch some of the top home games of the season with a pair of ‘Stimulus Plan' ticket offers. With the purchase of a ‘Stimulus Plan,' fans receive tickets to three of the top matches of the year, plus a ‘bonus' ticket to the final game of the regular season, Fan Appreciation Night against the Houston Dynamo on Oct. 25. The ‘Red' plan includes matches vs. New England (Sept. 13), Kansas City (Oct. 10), and San Jose (Oct. 17), and the ‘White' plan consists of games against Toronto FC (Aug. 22), New York (Sept. 26), and San Jose (Oct. 17). ZACH THORNTON RIDES STELLAR FIRST HALF TO SIXTH ALL-STAR NOMINATION: Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton was added on Sunday to the 2009 MLS All-Star Team, replacing Houston goalkeeper Pat Onstad. The 13-year veteran of MLS has played every minute of league play for the Red-and-White, with seven shutouts and a 0.88 goals against average in 17 games. Since entering the league in 1996, Thornton has earned many accolades, including being named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 1998, the year he helped the Chicago Fire to the MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup. He has five previous MLS All-Star nods (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003), and won two additional U.S. Open Cups with Chicago in 2000 and 2003, as well as the Supporters Shield with the Fire in 2003. Thornton will be on the All-Star Team roster for the match against England's Everton FC this Wednesday, July 29, joining Seattle Sounders FC goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

CHIVAS USA TRAINING IN CARSON AHEAD OF AUG. 8 MATCH AT COLORADO: Chivas USA is currently in a break from game action, having played the New England Revolution on July 19 and not playing its next match for 20 days, coming on Aug. 8 at the Colorado Rapids. In the interim, Chivas USA will be training at The Home Depot Center (see the team's schedule below for times and locations for the coming week) in Carson, Calif. The match in Colorado will be the second of three straight road matches, a run which concludes on Aug. 15 at the New York Red Bulls. The team then returns home against Toronto FC on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. JORGE FLORES LEADS U.S. U-20'S TO VICTORY IN ARGENTINA: Chivas USA midfielder Jorge Flores scored both goals in the United States Under-20 National Team's 2-0 win over C.A. Tiro Federal in Argentina on Saturday. The first goal came in the 19th minute on tap-in, while the second goal was a strike to the top corner from the top of the box in minute 83. Flores, along with Chivas USA teammates Gerson Mayén and Cesar Zamora, is currently with the U.S. U-20's for a 10-day training camp in Argentina, the final gathering of the team before the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in September. The trip also includes two international games as part of the Copa Ciudad de Rosario, against Uruguay on July 27 and Australia on July 29.

GUADALAJARA UPDATE: CHIVAS FALL IN THRILLER TO OPEN SEASON: Chivas de Guadalajara opened its Apertura season this past Sunday with a thrilling 4-3 loss at Toluca. Javier Hernandez gave Guadalajara the lead in the 6th minute, but Toluca fought back and took a 3-1 lead before goals from Aarón Galindo (79th minute) and Ramón Morales (82nd minute) tied the game. However, a stunning free kick deep into injury time from Toluca's Israel López gave the hosts the lead. Guadalajara now plays its home opener this Saturday at Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara, hosting Tigres. Hosts Hipólito Gamboa and Rigoberto Cervantez, who also serve as play-by-play and color commentator for every Chivas USA match of the 2009 MLS season, will discuss the road ahead for the Red-and-White as the team prepares for its next game, on Aug. 8 at the Colorado Rapids.
