Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (4-6-8, 20 points) begins a stretch of three home matches in eight days with an encounter against Sporting Kansas City (8-5-5, 29 points) at Crew Stadium on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is televising the game, with Dwight Burgess, Chris Doran and Ashleigh Ignelzi on the call. Neil Sika and John Bluem are set to describe the action for 95.5 The Game, with Carlos Cordova and Juan Valladares behind the microphone for La Mega 103.1 FM.
Crew Stadium is also hosting an After Work Happy Hour before the contest with $2 hot dogs and $4 souvenir draft beers for fans 21 and older from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. ET in the Crew Stadium Plaza.
Wednesday night's match is the second of two meetings in 2014 between the Crew and Sporting, which hosted the Black & Gold on May 4 at Sporting Park. Sporting KC won that match by a final score of 2-0. All-time, the Black & Gold have a record of 21-23-6 against their Eastern Conference rivals, who have won the previous four clashes.
Since 2006, Columbus and Sporting Kansas City have traded streaks of at least five consecutive matches of success for one club in the all-time regular-season series. The Crew dropped five straight matches from 2006-2007 before the Black & Gold rattled-off a six-match (5-0-1) stretch of points against the Kansas City side from 2008 to 2010. Sporting KC is 4-0-1 in their last five matches against the Crew since 2012.
With his assist on Adam Bedell's goal in New York on July 12, Ethan Finlay has scored a goal or an assist in six of the last seven League matches he's played in dating back to May 17 at Portland. Finlay scored his first career tally in Oregon before returning home for a second goal against Chicago on May 24. On May 31 in Toronto, Finlay added an assist on Justin Meram's tally to open the scoring before scoring on June 4, and he also notched the team's lone goal in the 1-1 draw at Colorado on July 4.
