San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes attacker Tommy Thompson was called to United States U-20 National Team duty on Tuesday. He replaces LA Galaxy forward Bradford Jamieson IV as the Americans participate in the 2014 Men's National Training Center Invitational.
The national team invite is the first for Thompson since attending a U-14 Identification camp in 2008. Since then, he played one season at Indiana University where he scored five goals in 16 games and earned Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Year honors before signing as the San Jose Earthquakes' first homegrown player this past winter. Thompson, currently on loan with San Jose's USL PRO affiliate, has started two of the four games he has appeared in for Sacramento, playing a total of 198 minutes.
In addition to the U-20 MNT call-up, Thompson is slated to participate in the inaugural Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game on Monday, Aug. 3 at Providence Park as part of the 2014 AT&T All-Star Game festivities. The Sacramento-area native signed as San Jose's first Homegrown Player on Jan. 17, 2014.
Thompson joined the U-20 MNT on Monday night as the U.S. earned a 2-1 comeback victory against Chile in its opening NTC Invitational match. The U-20s play Bermuda in their next match on July 16 at 4 p.m. PT before concluding the NTC Invitational against Australia at 7 p.m. on July 18 - a match that can be seen live on ussoccer.com.
