Crazy Play Helps Dash Win Sixth Straight

Winston-Salem Dash News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (APRIL 19, 2010) - Behind excellent starting pitching and a bizarre offensive play, the Winston-Salem Dash won its sixth straight game on Monday night with a 4-1 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at BB&T Coastal Field. The win streak is the longest for Winston since it won eight in a row last season.
The game was a pitcher's duel through much of the night, as the Dash's Justin Edwards (2-0) matched zeros with the Pelicans' Randall Delgado (0-1). Winston finally dented the scoreboard in the sixth inning when it loaded the bases and got a sacrifice fly from Jon Gilmore to go ahead 1-0.
The game reached the realm of absurdity in the top of the seventh inning. With two outs and Delgado still pitching, Luis Sierra singled and Drew Garcia walked. Delgado was then replaced by Yeliar Castro who fell behind Justin Greene with a 3-1 count.
Greene greeted Castro's next offering with a sinking liner to right field. Adam Milligan dove for the ball, but it bounced past him and rolled all the way to the warning track. Sierra and Garcia easily scored, and Greene was waved around third base by manager Joe McEwing. Greene then tripped himself up halfway between third and home, falling flat on his face and lying there for several seconds.
Unbeknownst to Greene, the relay from right field airmailed the catcher, allowing Greene to eventually stand up and stumble home to score the third run on the crazy play. Greene was credited with a triple and two RBI and he scored on the throwing error by second baseman Yoel Campusano to make it 4-0 Winston-Salem.
Myrtle Beach scored its only run on a solo home run by Jahdiel Santamaria in the bottom of the seventh.
The Pelicans home run was the only blemish on an outstanding performance by Dash starter Justin Edwards. The lefty pitched seven innings of three-hit, one run ball. He struck out six and tied for the longest outing by a Winston-Salem starter this season.
Dan Remenowsky pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game and finish with his second save.
The four-game series continues on Tuesday night. RHP Nate Jones (0-1, 2.79) makes his third start for the Dash against Pelicans LHP Cole Rohrbough (0-0, 11.81). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at BB&T Coastal Field. The webcast pre-game show begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
