Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory, NC - After a monsoon induced rain delay, play was suspended at the Frans on Sunday afternoon. The game was originally started the previous night after the top of the first inning. The game was called after seven innings today, with Rome winning by a score of 7-5.
Dustin Harris got things started for the 'Dads, hitting a homerun in the first inning
They added on another run in the fourth on a solo homerun to right by Trey Hair to pull ahead 2-0.
Rome tagged 'Dads pitcher Kevin Gowdy for a trio of runs those in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
The Crawdads evened the score in the bottom of the inning. Harris and Hair singled, putting runners on the corners. David Garcia hit a sacrifice fly deep enough to left field for Harris to tag up and score to bring the score to three.
The Braves scored four runs off Justin Marsden more to pull ahead 7-3.
The 'Dads rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it a two-run game. Jared Walker doubled while Ezequiel Duran and Trevor Hauver walked to load the bases. Dustin Harris singled to right to drive in the two lead runners.
Rain had started coming down during the Crawdads half of the inning. After the final out of the seventh, play was suspended. The rain didn't let up after a delay, causing the game to be officially called as a complete game after seven.
Today's scheduled 3pm game will be made up in a doubleheader in Rome during the last series of the year with the date to be determined.
The Crawdads are off tomorrow and will start a new six game series against the Winston-Salem Dash on Tuesday evening.
