Craig Kuzmic joins Fisher Cats roster

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release


Manchester, NH- Catcher Craig Kuzmic was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a minor league free agent and assigned to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats today. Also, right-hander Ismael Ramirez was sent from the Fisher Cats to the Class Triple-A Syracuse SkyChiefs yesterday.

The 28-year-old Kuzmic had been playing this season with the Chico Outlaws of the Independent Golden Baseball League. He was originally selected by Seattle in the eighth round of the 1998 draft out of Texas A&M. He spent eight minor league seasons with four different organizations: Seattle, San Francisco, Houston and Washington. He spent parts of last season in the Eastern League with the Harrisburg Senators, where he hit .236 with six home runs and 32 RBI in 42 games. The Fisher Cats had been playing with just one catcher (Erik Kratz) on their active roster prior to the addition of Kuzmic.

The 25-year-old Ramirez made his Triple-A debut with Syracuse last night, earning the win by going six innings and allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six. He began the season with the Fisher Cats and led the Eastern League with a 2.08 ERA at the time of his promotion. He was 7-5 in 20 games (19 starts) overall this season. He was originally signed by Toronto as a nondrafted free agent on July 30, 1998 from his native country of Venezuela.

The Fisher Cats continue their road series in Bowie tonight against the Baysox with a doubleheader beginning at 5:35 PM.
