
Adam Miller of the Akron Aeros named 2006 Eastern League Pitcher of the Year

Portland, ME - The Eastern League of Professional Baseball is pleased to announce that Akron Aeros starting pitcher Adam Miller has been selected as the 2006 Eastern League Pitcher of the Year. The 6'4", 175 lb. hurler has been the ace of the Southern Division leading Akron pitching staff, compiling a record of 13-6 with a 2.88 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP while striking out 142 batters and walking 41 in 140.2 innings of work this season. The right-hander has been dominant for the Aeros all season, giving up one earned run or less in 14 of his 24 appearances and striking out at least seven batters in a game nine different times. Adam, a native of McKinney, Texas, is currently tied for the league lead in wins (13) and is also among the league leaders in shutouts (1-tied 2nd), ERA (2.88-3rd), strikeouts (142-3rd), WHIP (1.14-7th) and innings pitched (140.2-9th).
The 21-year old has collected numerous accolades for the Aeros this season, including being named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 23rd, the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July and being selected as the right-handed starting pitcher for the 2006 Eastern League All-Star Team. Miller was also named to the United States team for the 2006 Major League Baseball Futures Game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, but was not able to participate in the game due to injuries.
Miller, who entering this season was ranked by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Cleveland organization, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the June 2003 draft as the 31st overall pick after going 10-2 with 117 strikeouts and a 0.56 ERA in 75 innings of work during his senior year at McKinney High School in Texas.
Trenton right-handed starter Philip Hughes finished second in the voting for the award and Altoona right-handed starter Landon Jacobsen finished third in the voting. The award was voted on by respective Eastern League team managers and coaching staffs, sportswriters, radio and television broadcast personnel and other members of the media.
The winners of the Eastern League Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year were also announced today and the announcement of the winner of the Eastern League Most Valuable Player Award will be made on Wednesday, August 30th.
