New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (61-71) swept both games of a doubleheader against the Bowie Baysox (62-70) Friday night at Prince George's Stadium in front of 9,105, winning by scores of 4-1 and 6-3.
In game one, Jesse Litsch (3-4) pitched a seven inning complete game, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out four. New Hampshire got all the offense they would need on a two-run homer by Chip Cannon in the fourth inning off of Beau Hale (4-5). The home run was Cannon's 23rd, which set a new Fisher Cats franchise record for home runs in a season, breaking the mark of 22 held by John-Ford Griffin from the 2004 season.
The Fisher Cats added two insurance runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Cannon and a sac fly by Erik Kratz for a 4-0 lead against Hale. Hale suffered the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out four. Bowie's only run would come in the seventh on a solo homer by Jeff Fiorentino.
In game two, Jason Scobie (1-0) allowed just one run on eight hits in six innings to earn the win in his Fisher Cats debut. He joined New Hampshire just before game time from the Class Triple-A Syracuse SkyChiefs and did not walk a batter in his start while striking out two.
An RBI single by David Smith gave the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead in the top of the first against Brian Forystek, making his first start of the season. Bowie would tie it at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Fiorentino, the only run Scobie would allow. New Hampshire put the game out of reach in the second inning by scoring four runs, including a two-run single by Dustin Majewski, who reached base four times with a single and three walks. Manny Mayorson added an RBI single in the inning to put the Fisher Cats on top 5-1. Forystek departed after allowing five runs on six hits and three walks in just two innings.
Bowie mounted a comeback in the seventh inning against Jordan DeJong, who had joined the Fisher Cats earlier in the day from Syracuse, on a two-run homer by Gera Alvarez to make it 6-3. DeJong walked Fiorentino with two outs in the sevent and was replaced by Tracy Thorpe, who got Noah Hall to pop out with the tying run in the on deck circle for his 14th save of the season.
The Fisher Cats and Baysox continue their five game series Saturday at 7:05 PM. New Hampshire returns home to begin their final homestand of the season on Monday, August 28 at 6:35 PM. For tickets or information, call (603) 641-2005 or visit nhfishercats.com.
