York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution saw their three-game winning streak come to a close, suffering a 7-2 defeat to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Sunday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs, still leading the Freedom Division's second half standings by 1.5 games, will look for a series victory in the rubber game on Monday.
The Blue Crabs took an early lead with a first inning run on a two-out bloop single by Ben Harrison, but that was the only run allowed by Revs starter Shaun Garceau in five innings of work. The right-hander escaped trouble in the second leaving the bases loaded when Vince Harrison robbed Adam Godwin of extra bases on a diving stop at third to end the inning, and stranded a pair in scoring position in the fourth after the first two batters reached. Garceau stranded seven runners, six in scoring position, and held Southern Maryland to a 1-for-12 clip with runners in scoring position.
York took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the bottom of the third as Scott Grimes came home on a wild pitch and Ramon Castro lined an RBI single to left-center. But after loading the bases with one out, Crabs starter Eddie Rodriguez induced an inning-ending double play, the first on a stretch of 16 consecutive hitters retired by the right-hander through the eighth inning.
Rodriguez (4-4) allowed two hits in the ninth, but went the distance firing 124 pitches for the first complete game of his career and Southern Maryland's first of the season. He walked only one and struck out eight, snapping a personal three-game losing streak.
The Blue Crabs erupted for six runs in the seventh to pull away. After Joe Jiannetti was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the tying run, Rich Giannotti ripped a go-ahead two-run double down the left field line and Tanner Townsend blew it open with a three-run homer to left.
Notes: James Shanks extended his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games with a single in the second. The Revs lost a four-game winning streak against Southern Maryland; the streak tied the longest for the Revs in series history. The York bullpen had worked a 2.64 ERA over the previous 13 games before allowing six runs in the seventh. Revs starters have a 2.19 ERA over the last six games. Garceau has allowed just one run in back-to-back starts, and has a 1.69 ERA in nine appearances (three starts) since June 29. The Revs finish July with a 16-11 record. York's Corey Thurman (8-3, 3.76) will face the Blue Crabs' Michael Schlact (5-1, 3.72) in a matchup of two All-Star starters in Monday's series finale at 6:30 p.m. It's a Hatfield Dollar Dog Night at Sovereign Bank Stadium, featuring the return of the Hot Dog Cannon. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
