Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 31, 2011) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Road Warriors 17-3 on Sunday night in the second game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Javier Colina put the Ducks in front with a two-run blast to left in the first inning against Road Warriors' starter Luke Massetti. The lead was pushed to 5-0 following a three-spot in the second. A RBI double by Erick Monzon, a sac fly from Kraig Binick, and a RBI single by Ray Navarrete highlighted the inning.
The Road Warriors closed the deficit to 5-1 on a sac fly to right by Danny Gonzalez in the third off Ducks' starter Mike Loree. However, two runs in the fourth and six in the fifth for Long Island put the game away. Binick's RBI single and Navarrete's RBI double in the fourth started the damage. A solo homer by John Rodriguez, a two-run blast from Matt Padgett, and a two-run shot by Navarrete helped increase the advantage to 13-1.
After two runs by the visitors in the sixth, the home run barrage continued for the Ducks as they plated a run in the sixth on J.R. House's solo blast to left and three more in the seventh on Rodriguez' second homer of the game, a three-run shot to right.
That was more than enough for Loree (13-2) to collect the win, tossing five and one-third innings, allowing three runs while striking out eight. Massetti (7-8) took the loss, surrendering 10 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits in four and one-third innings.
Eight of the nine Ducks batters each picked up at least one hit, one run batted in, and one run scored. Monzon led the way with four hits in the contest, while Navarrete and Rodriguez each paced Long Island with four RBI.
The Ducks wrap up their three-game series with the Road Warriors and their six-game homestand on Monday night. Game time is set for 7:05 PM, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Mark Diapoules gets the start for the Ducks against the Road Warriors' Miguel Martinez.
